From 1881 "History of Lafayette Co." - Robert Trestrail was born in Cornwall, England in 1816. He learned the boot and shoe trade in England and came to Shullsburg in 1851. He continued with his business until his death in April 29' 1873. He was a member of the Village and School Boards and was appointed Postmaster in 1869. His wife, Elizabeth, took over his position as Postmaster in 1873. They had 3 children - Robert M., Mary S., and William H.
