Joseph Hutchinson farmer, Section 8 Shullsburg was born Jan. 12. 1809 in Yorkshire England. Mr. Hutchinson came to Shullsburg in Fall of 1851 and brought his family from Dubuque County in Spring of 1852. He owned 545 acres of land with a Smelting Furnace. He married Ellen Spensleyfrom England in 1832. She passed away in 1851 and they had 7 children: Christopher,James,Spensley, Joseph, Margaret A, Elizabeth and Ruth. His second marriage was to Elizabeth Mayne in 1856 and they had one child :Sarah J. His second wife passed away in Sept 1879. He married his 3rd wife in November of 1879. His son Christopher is a resident of Beetown Grant Co. Wis. He was a member of the State Legislature and was appointed Fish Commissioner for the State. He was also Chairman of The Village Board. James and Spensley lived in Blackhawk Colo. and Joseph managed the business with his Father in Shullsburg.
