From 1881 "History of Lafayette County" - Mr. Vandagriff was proprietor of Shullsburg House; born Oct. 10, 1817, in Virginia. When a child he came to Springfield with his parents; here he learned the tailoring trade; in about 1833, he came to Athens, Illinois and there started a tailoring shop; he continued this till 1846 when he came to Lafayette Co. Wisconsin; he then commenced in the live-stock business, and has followed that ever since. He shipped the first car-load of stock between Freeport and Dubuque on the ICRR. He married Armenta A. Barnett in 1842; she was born in Sangamon Co. Ill. in 1825 and died in 1861. Their children were William T.,Anna B, Thomas J. and John S. His second marriage was to Mrs. Brockway, July 1870; she was born in Vermont and she had two children from a former marriage.
