Andrew Hebenstreit was born Sept 29, 1826 in Prussia. He came to New Orleans in 1852 and then Galena working as a boot and shoemaker. In 1863 he commenced a grocery business in Shullsburg deceased in Oct 15 1880. He owned 98 acres of land and a brick store and other property in Shullsburg.He married Wilhelmina Bartum in 1852 in Galena. She was from Small Rueden Province in Brunswick. They had 6 children: John, who took over the business, Mary who became Mrs. Charles Bergener, Charles, and James with two children deceased.
